Description

  • Bring your loom, shuttle, bobbins and weaving tools to this 2-day weekend of learning the basics of drafts, warping, and weaving on your loom.
  • Basic instruction, discussion, and mentor assistance will help you better understand the art of weaving.
  • Mentors available to give basic directions and assistance as you warp and weave on your loom.

 

Specifics

  • Rigid heddle or shaft looms (table or floor) can be used for this weaving experience.
  • You will need a 6-8 epi reed, at least 12 inches wide.
    • Rigid heddle must have 6-8 epi reed. No adjustments can be made to epi on rigid heddle.
    • Shaft looms can have a different epi and we can help you calculate the adjustment
  • Some looms and tools are available on loan from the guild on a first come first serve basis.
    • If you need a guild loom and weaving tools, contact Vila Cox asap to reserve.
  • Mentors and participants can bring larger tools to share with the group.
  • Warp and weft will be provided to create approximately 6 dishcloths in either twill or plain weave.

 

TIPS: Start learning now with Learning to Weave by Deborah Chandler

TOOLS: Bring your loom, shuttle(s), bobbins (if needed for your shuttle), reed (6-8epi), scissors, waste yarn (old yarn to use as spacer material), any tools specific to your loom.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS: bring a warping board, warping pegs (rigid heddle), bobbin winder, yarn needle, t-pins, other weaving tools that you like.

FINAL DETAILS: bring a lunch, bring a snack to share, get comfy (wear comfy clothes, fuzzy socks or slippers, a sweater, etc), bring your own chair or bench if desired
