As your Guild President this year, I am issuing a President’s challenge. I am calling it:
Hold On!
It is another silly name, but apparently, I like silly names for things! For this President’s challenge, I challenge you, as a member of our guild, to once again learn more about a fellow guild member while you make a thing that can hold something for your fellow guild member. Think of a handmade vessel to hold something. This vessel could be a bag, a purse, a bowl, a basket. It can be functional or decorative.
This year I challenge you to secretly make a vessel for a guild mate and then present that vessel to the guild member at the December meeting. You will randomly select your special recipient’s name at the October meeting: you will have two months to create your vessel for your special person.
To participate, you will need to fill out the form online or at the October meeting. (Questions are listed below so you know what will be asked.) On that form you will find questions about yourself. All these questions are intended to be low stress and fun. If there are any questions that you do not like, or that make you uncomfortable, please feel free to ignore them. This is intended to be fun. And the challenge for the recipient of your entry form is to use the information on the form to create a vessel specially for you.
Challenge requirements:
Finally, the nitty gritty details! There are just three requirements for this challenge.
-
Create a vessel in whatever fiber art medium makes you happy and will produce a vessel that you might like to receive, and use. You may weave or knit or tat or crochet or sew or appliqué or hand-dye fabric or use any other way that you can think of to create this vessel. There is no minimum size or any other fiber requirements.
-
Use something from the questions on your recipient’s form to influence your design. I have included a few obvious questions to help make this easier, but please use your imagination to design something that reflects the person you are making it for.
-
Please make a commitment to bring the vessel, in person, to the December meeting. And make a commitment to attend the meeting to receive your item. Please also be prepared to introduce your fellow guild member and present your item to the lucky recipient. If you are uncomfortable with public speaking, please let me (Katzy) know, and I would be happy to make the presentation for you. I hope you have fun and enjoy the challenge!
And finally, here is the form for you to fill out. I hope you have fun and enjoy the challenge! President’s Challenge 2026
